"Samuel A. "Sam" Boyd (April 23, 1910 – January 15, 1993), was a businessman.
Born in Enid, Oklahoma, he arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1941 with only $80 in his pocket. He was able to work his way up through the gaming industry by first working as a dealer, then as a pit boss, and as a shift supervisor."

"Eventually he saved enough money to buy an interest in the Sahara Hotel. Sam Boyd then moved on to become general manager and partner at The Mint in downtown Las Vegas, where he introduced a number of successful marketing, gaming and entertainment innovations."

Sam's Town Hotel Casino, on Boulder Highway in Henderson, Nevada is an "Old West Gambling Hall." Sam Boyd's western accoutrements, including his saddle and six-shooter, are on display in the hotel. A western bar/lounge (Roxy's Lounge) with country music adds to the western ambience. There is a Sheplers Western Wear store on site. Sam's Town allows New Yorkers.

A bowling alley (some 50 lanes) and a multiplex theater complex bring the hotel up to date. Several fine restaurants: Mexican (Willy and Jose's Cantina,) Italian (Fellini's) and the Steak House (Billy Bob's Steakhouse and Saloon) serve full meals. Then there is the Firelight Buffet, coffee shop (Fresh Harvest Cafe,) a Fast Food court (Quick Bites) and a number of snack bars.

The Mystic Falls Park light and water show, under the glass roof, is performed several times each evening. The indoor park setting offers a running creek, live flora, mechanical: beaver, bear, howling wolf, and assorted creatures of the wild. Buy an adult beverage, ice-cream or coffee, sit in a rustic mountain-style chair and commune with nature. Mystic Falls Park is one of my favorite places to go in Las Vegas. I had the great luxury and privilege of being able to walk across a parking area (from the RV Park) to the hotel where I would buy a coffee (and sometimes a muffin or cookie,) sit on one of the rustic-western chairs, set my coffee down on one of the little tables - made from tree limbs still wearing their bark - and commune with nature, as it were.

This is most assuredly where a Dali Lama-like figure would stay if he were to visit Las Vegas. Mystic Falls is close to being a high, holy place - very Zen.

Sam Boyd was a visionary who's gaze looked to the past. When one ponders this wonderful gift he gave us, one can't help thinking kindly about Sam Boyd. Without a doubt this is one of my favorite hotels in Las Vegas. I personally recommend it. BC
