| A new buzz in the Orange County area is (about)
Portillo's Hot Dogs / Portillo's Home Kitchen. |
| Just opened (mid-October, 2005) Portillo's atmosphere is faintly
reminiscent of the Shakey's Pizza Parlors in the 1960s - almost carnival-like.
Opening week provided a steady flow of hot dog munchers milling about,
waiting to pick up their order at the self-service counter, ordering beer
or wine at the beer and wine counter, customers
ordering at the food counter or eating hot dogs and other treats either at a
table in the main dining area or at the outdoor patio. |

| "THIS IS A FAMILY RESTAURANT" |

| The ambience is "Al Capone's Chicago - Modern" replete
with a half-dozen booze stills high above the tables, a gangster bathing in
bathtub gin, machine guns and lots of neon. Some folks undoubtedly
will find the decor offensive. |

| The food does not offend, however. RIGHT-ON Chicago dogs,
burgers, Italian beef sandwiches, chicken sandwiches and more are served
steaming hot. Prices are cool to moderate. They also offer
salads, sides, desserts and beverages (including beer and wine.) |
| The All Beef Hot Dog with everything: mustard, relish,
chopped onions, tomatoes, kosher pickle, and of course peppers - piled
high on a poppy seed bun - installs its taste in your memory files quickly
($2.29). |
