PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA

Getting There...
Driving from Las Vegas: Take I-15 South to I-215, then I-215 Southeast to I-10, continue East on I-10.  Las Vegas to Palm Springs is about a 4 to 41/2 hour drive...
From Los Angeles International Airport (LAX):
Approximately 131 Miles Take Century Blvd. to I-105 East, to I-605 North to I-10 East, exit at Highway 111 to Palm Springs.
From Orange County-John Wayne Airport (SNA):
Approximately 100 Miles Take MacArthur Blvd. North to Highway 55, to Highway 91 East, to Highway 60 East, to I-10 East, exit at Highway 111 to Palm Springs.
One of the first things that you might notice upon arriving at Palm Springs - at night anyway - is the conspicuous "lack" of  bright, colorful commercial signage.  This (way North - Hollywood) suburb has decided to keep a low profile after dark.  Most commercial signage is subdued.

If you drive a Rolls Royce or a sleek Black Mercedes-Benz you will feel very comfortable in this Desert hamlet.  If not you will have a great time, anyway, people watching or strolling down the main street (Palm Canyon Drive,) visiting the Art galleries or dining at one of the wonderful restaurants.

This is a slick town, though most of the action is behind closed doors or on patios at night - at sophisticated parties with "cool" Jazz trios or quartets.

Palm Springs is a one-of-a-kind town.  If you don't know where to start, try the Starbucks and just watch.  You will catch on, even though you might not feel like you fit in.  Enjoy it anyway.  The brilliant juxtaposition of the town in relation to the mountain on the Western edge of the city bathes the area in shade by late afternoon.  This is a real good thing since the temperatures in summer can be severe.

Las Casuelas Terraza
is a favorite Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs.  On the main drag, this restaurant offers patio dining as well as several indoor rooms and more than one bar.  The menu includes most standard MEXICAN fare.  They also offer Happy-Hour specials.
