Nogales, Arizona/Nogales, Mexico are fresh, hip border
towns, as far as border towns go. South of the border features some
fairly decent Nightclubs and a wild nightlife. Up North (a few
blocks,) a few years ago, Danny Guitar was playing Friday afternoons -
with a Mexican trio - at a
Shakey's (yea that one) Pizza Parlour on the border. Danny
Guitar is (was) a seventy-something year old - American - guitar master
who lives on the USA side and crosses the border to play in the clubs in
Mexico. He is a superb guitarist and singer who plays all the right
(and tasty) chords. He knows the American Jazz standards as well as
Mexican tunes. Hopefully he is still with us. In the 90's, he
usually had a young protégé under his wing, whom he would take to New York to visit Les Paul and return with new material for the Mexican
Nightclubs.
