Take me to Miceli's Website |
|
Miceli's is in the middle of a "magical vortex," a short
distance from the Melrose district. Miceli's has acquired a somewhat
worn patina (some wall paint is cracked, like an Old Master's painting,)
but that is part of the charm of this dark wood (and a rainbow of
colors in accoutrements) restaurant. There are hundreds of classic straw Chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling, interesting
paintings and throne-like dinning chairs on the back wall. |
|
We had lunch at Miceli's today,
and I was reminded again what a really cozy, good look'n restaurant it is. |
|
The food is old-style Southern Italian: rich red sauce dishes, as well as other traditional favorites. |
The pizza is California style. |

|
|
If you are looking
for atmosphere and old world charm, this is the place. You might
be seated next to the ghosts of Gloria Swanson, William Holden, Erich
von Stroheim, Nancy Olson, Billy Wilder, Cecil B. Demille and, of course, Norma Desmond
at the head of the table. |
|
Many of the old stars had bungalows in the surrounding
neighborhood. If you're lucky, you'll see one of the old
Hollywood "spirit ladies" standing on a corner under a street light. |
|
Excerpts from Miceli's website: |
- The days when The Beatles
came down the street from Capitol Records to the only place that served
beer & pie until midnight!
- When Marilyn Monroe drank
martinis by the bar!
- When Bugsy Siegel and
Sal Mineo had late-night rendevous with heaping
plates of spaghetti & meatballs!
|
There is a parking lot just south of the restaurant. |
