The 2007 Sawdust Art Festival
in Laguna Beach, CA |

Magazine,” the Sawdust Art Festival 2007 was favored with blue sky's
and California sunshine…Show Dates & Hours: Friday, June 29 -
September 2, 2007; Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day…Link

world-famous Sawdust Art Festival where visitors experience the
artistic wonders of 200 Laguna Beach artists amidst towering
eucalyptus trees and tranquil waterfalls within a three and half acre
canyon setting. Since 1966 the Sawdust has drawn art enthusiasts
looking for original artwork including: painting, ceramics, jewelry,
photography, textile arts, wood and metal sculpture, hand blown and
fused glass and even scrimshaw.”

stocked with art & craft work from the Sawdust Festival;

| The huge crystal (maybe two
feet high) had a metal frame/fountain built around it...Crystal and
water together - Wow... |

July 3, 2006...Not the best weather for The Cherry Creek
Art Festival, anyway I was there for a second…I saw a group of oils that
knocked me out…One, Larry Preston who's bio spoke of his studying the Dutch
Masters…Good job studying…The luxurious oil paintings in simple black frames
brought to mind rich, important paintings that hang in important museums…A
slice of Cantaloupe, other fruits, flowers and assorted still-lifes are
painted in sumptuous oils, and they are painted very well…This was the best
I saw, however I didn’t see everything…There was also a chick Jazz singer
who was performing with her bass man at the west end of 2nd Avenue (I think
it was.)…Her singing was right. |

HENDERSON, NEVADA'S ART FEST closed at the end of
May 14th's show. |
|
The fest offered typical Art-show presentations. In
addition to the Artisans, the food and booze vendors were peddling their
wares in the 100 degree temps. I braved the high temps to bring you my
evaluations of the art and craft work at the show. I am only
addressing the works which I found to be personal favorites, or work that I
think deserves mention here. |
|
One artist, who happens to be a painter, gets my
nomination for having the BEST OF SHOW
painting. Her Dali-like, reality-bending
dreamscapes caught my eye and wouldn't let go. Israeli/Californian
Ora Tamir's vibrantly colored oil-paintings are stunning as well as
thought provoking. |

Juan Qevedo is a watercolorist. He also
makes his own frames. His frames are also "Works of Art." His
frame matting is cut in elaborately designed geometric shapes and integrated
into and around the watercolors, which include classic designs (Don Quixote)
and colorful modern abstracts. (Sorry, I don't have contact info. for
this artist - contact Henderson Art show staff.) |

ROBERT KAWIKA SHEER is a photographer, par
excellence, who's image is often integrated into his photographs via lonnnng
exposure shots - if I understand the process correctly. His wife also
explained that Sheer works on film production and discovered this process in
Hollywood. |

CHARLIE WATKINS of Tucson, Arizona creates
"Pueblo-Village" wall hangings. These little pueblo villages, with
ladders and window / door openings look almost as inviting as the real
thing. A few feet by about 12" high seems to be an average size, as I
recall. Each Pueblo is built on a foundation of a tree limb.
This is "earthy folk art." |

PRINCE DUNKIN-WILLIAMS weaves magic with his Silk
and Rayon Mosaic Works of Art. From a distance of a few feet the large
"canvases" look like oil-paintings. On closer inspection, one finds
that these colorful "pictures" are "drawn" with tightly placed rows of
lengths of thread. The subject matter is mostly of Black-American-Pop
culture, as well as African culture. |

SADEGH AREF seems to be carrying on the tradition
of the Cubist School of painting. The seemingly layered, soft pastel
images are nicely executed and very appealing. |
