The Venetian restaurant is
OUT-OF-BUSINESS
THE VENETIAN ITALIAN RESTAURANT
PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: Before
the holiday season, my family dined at the Venetian Italian Restaurant.
Our waiter spilled a glass of red wine on a cloth purse of a young lady in
our party. Management said it would dry clean the purse and send it to
the young lady, who lives in Southern California. The holiday season
came and went, fall came and went, and winter and spring passed.
During my next visit to Las Vegas that following August, I paid management a
visit to inquire about the purse. I was not received well - A "Toni"
tried to "turn the tables" on me. She actually asked "Did she leave
the purse?" I know it's been a long time, but at least, could I have
gotten an apology, if not the purse? I'll let you know how this turns
out. BC
The Venetian restaurant is on West Sahaara Ave. It is not
affiliated with the Venetian Hotel Casino.
For the present, this restaurant has been dropped from
the LVBC favorites list

The Plaza Hotel - built in 1881
- at Number One Main Street
is on the Western edge of Fremont Street - at The Fremont Street
Experience. It once housed the Las Vegas train station at a time when downtown
Las Vegas was a vibrant, desirable part of the city. The Plaza, like
much of the downtown area has seen better times. The Freemont Street
Experience has turned things around somewhat for the casinos along
Fremont Street, however the Plaza is like a tired old lady who bravely
"puts on her face" for the public. It once was a grand hotel, now
somewhat overshadowed by today's extremes.
50 cent referred to the price
of a Shrimp Cocktail from the little cafeteria, not a rapper. The
Shrimp Cocktail was a favorite among downtowners. A bank of Penny slots
were available, even though most other casinos shunned them.
"Pennies" made a comeback in 2005. That was the way it was.
When the occasional cold spell
hit Las Vegas we would stand under the main entrance lights of the Plaza
to keep warm.
There are a lot of light bulbs under the canopy.
THIS IS OUTDATED INFORMATION.

THE MGM GRAND BUFFET offers weekend Champagne Brunches as well as daily
breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets.
The room is basically one big open space (with no little
cubby-holes nor nooks nor crannies which I prefer.) I do like the
room though. It's theme is sort of motion-picture-theatre-lobby:
It has theatre-type wall-sconce light fixtures.
"Décor reminiscent of Hollywood's golden age"
The serving area is clever: several very long serving
stations are set parallel to one another, so that you have food on both
sides while loading the plate...
The choices are extensive. Even the breakfast
buffet has many dozens of choices...
The dinner buffet includes "King crab legs, Rack of lamb, carved turkey, prime rib."

Although adequate, the FRISCO MARKET BUFFET,

The room is small, the choices are minimal and the prices are minimal. If
you are on a budget or don't need vast varieties of food, this might be
the place for you.
Actually the room is very pleasant. Recently remodeled, this intimate room
has windows. The buffet choices provide the basics. Everything is scaled
down compared to the big guys. The food is prepared well - nothing too
fancy or hoity-toity. The place is bright, clean and cozy.

The Sahara, recognizable by its tall, colorful towers, which were featured

do get better with age.
Once a gathering spot for legends like the Rat Pack and Jack Benny, the
Sahara continues to attract celebrities, including NASCAR greats like Kyle

THE GARDEN COURT BUFFET - Best All Things Considered Buffet
The Buffet Room at the MAIN STREET STATION follows the NEW ORLEANS' decor of the
hotel. "Real" wood
ceilings, antique sideboards, objects d' art, and a tiled floor/foyer/waiting
area, framed with tile and
old-brick walls. Several dozen ceiling fans keep the air fresh under the high wood ceiling. This room has
"windows." Being at the epicenter of downtown Las Vegas also
adds a sense of adventure that you will not find at a Strip hotel.
All things considered: price, ambience, food, presentation,
windows
etc. - We think that this is certainly one of the best buffets in Las Vegas.
"The food is above average with several different stations: American, Asian, Island,
Mexican, Italian, Fruit and Salad and Dessert. The LAS VEGAS BUFFET CLUB recommends the breakfast and lunch buffets (the
windows add another dimension to
the dinning experience. ) This is not to say to ignore the dinner
buffet, however the room is a bit colder after
dark - still, not as cold as most rooms. Try the Friday Seafood night.
"The all-you-can eat Garden
Court Buffet is the ultimate in Las Vegas buffets. From the moment you
step inside, you'll enjoy the spacious surrounding with the vaulted
ceilings and Victorian gingerbread decor. And the food is fabulous, too!" [Excerpt & photo are from The MSS's website]

"The Moroccan
palace rising from the desert on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip is
not a mirage, but the historic Sahara Hotel & Casino, offering a variety
of restaurants, outstanding entertainment and a plethora of affordable
rooms.
The Sahara, recognizable by its tall, colorful towers, which were featured
prominently in the classic film "Ocean's 11," is evidence that some things
do get better with age.
Once a gathering spot for legends like the Rat Pack and Jack Benny, the
Sahara continues to attract celebrities, including NASCAR greats like Kyle
and Richard Petty. Bar names such as "Abracadabra" and "The Thirsty Camel"
emphasize the hotel's Moroccan theme, but old pictures of Liberace and the
Beatles remind you that classic Vegas is alive and well at the Sahara."

This "deep downtown" hotel casino is a bit rough around the
edges, however it does provide an experience that you won't find at the
Mirage or the
Bellagio. An
earthy Old Vegas bar, Keno, tables and machines hum and ring into the wee hours.
The rooms tell the story of better times - they must have
been quite nice back in the day (Bamboo and grass cloth.)
A bit seedy now, we would not recommend this hotel for a
family - however a few guys in town for a gambling junket would find the
rates very friendly.
Management does provide decent security, but a "heads-up"
attitude would be suggested.
The restaurant is worth visiting, at least once. Roast
beef 'dinner plates' can be had for a few bucks. This is a
remnant of Old Vegas - which is disappearing rapidly.

THE VENETIAN ITALIAN RESTAURANT
PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: Before the holiday season, my family dined
at the Venetian Italian Restaurant. Our waiter spilled a glass of red wine
on a cloth purse of a young lady in our party. Management said it would
dry clean the purse and send it to the young lady, who lives in Southern
California. The holiday season came and went, fall came and went, and
winter and spring passed. During my next visit to Las Vegas that following
August, I paid management a visit to inquire about the purse. I was not
received well - A "Toni" tried to "turn the tables" on me. She actually
asked "Did she leave the purse?" I know it's been a long time, but at
least, could I have gotten an apology, if not the purse? I'll let you know
how this turns out. BC

This buffet is interesting; it would be swell if they
served beer and wine…The main dinning room is huge with booths (impressive dark
woods) around the perimeter and tables in the center…The buffet itself is
humongous: table after table with items such as:
Snow Crab Legs, Jumbo Peel and Eat Shrimp, Salmon, Mussels, Stuffed
Flounder, Stuffed Shells, Catfish, Crawfish, Seafood Combination, Peking
Duck, New York Steak, Bourbon Chicken, Fajita Taco, Japanese Sushi Rolls
and Sashimi, Hibachi, General Tso’s Chicken, Prime “Ribs,” Roast Beef,
Mongolian Grill, “Pies of Pizza,” and Coconut Shrimp as well as Salads,
Fruits and Veggies, Appetizers, and Soups and Desserts…I was especially
happy with the Peel and Eat Shrimp, they were large and firm…I also
enjoyed the Mongolian Grill, Coconut Shrimp and the desserts…Overall it
was a good experience…We will return, next time with a buffet plan: zero
in on the items we really want and pass on the rest—yea, right! Buffet
prices are: Lunch - $6.99, Dinner - $10.59…Hours: Sunday - Thursday 11
am-9 pm, Friday - Saturday 11 am-9:30 pm…
(Call to verify prices!)
"Those familiar with Alameda Square know
that Asian restaurants and grocery stores have anchored the area for
years. With the grand opening of New China King Buffet, there’s something
for Alameda lovers to try out. Weekday lunch runs for a bargain
[$5.99, dinner for $9.99.] [Current
prices are: $6.99 and $10.59 - Nov. 18, 2006]
The staggering amount of food here takes buffet dining to a new level.
Some of the fare sticks to standard expectations: sautéed mussels, sesame
chicken, steamed dumplings, spring rolls, chicken skewers. Surprisingly,
the hot and sour soup is one of the best in Denver, getting the balance of
peppery elements and tartness exactly right. Other selections like the
seafood combination stand out for authenticity.
The Mongolian grill cooks it up right, with selections ranging from thinly
sliced beef and lamb to an assortment of noodles, though it does little to
distinguish itself from other grills of its kind. Same goes for the sushi
bar, which continually serves more creative rolls than other
buffets—dragon rolls and rainbow rolls, for instance—in addition to more
mainstream California rolls. Seafood lovers take advantage of the
selection of whole fish, peel-and-eat shrimp (true all-you-can-eat
connoisseurs understand the value) and snow crab legs.
Despite its primarily Asian offerings, New China King bills itself as
Chinese, American, Italian, Mexican, Caribbean and Japanese, so don’t be
surprised to find an interesting arrangement of food, which is sometimes a
bit confusing. Buffalo wings are in the same section as sautéed green
beans, and pies of pizza are matched opposite New England clam chowder.
Take it as evidence of the diverse collection that New China King Buffet
offers.
It’s the selection that has customers heading to New China King Buffet,
though a number of private parties have been utilizing the banquet
facilities, since the décor has an edge over other buffets with its
nuanced elegance. Rich reds and Asian accents create a celebratory
atmosphere, and the spacious seating makes buffet dining unobtrusive and
comfortable. Our last word: keep an eye out for this up-and-comer—it’s
worth a visit."

From The Plaza Hotel's page - 2005
The Plaza is
still a good place to spend an evening. The Omaha Lounge is a throwback to
the past - when free lounge shows were the norm. One show in particular is
worth seeing: The Dusty Barron Show. Dusty Barron is one of the most
talented showman in Las Vegas. With a virtual menagerie of electronic
musical devices, his "definitely plugged in" guitar, and amazing vocal
control he locks you in from the first note or utterance. To say that he
is a man of a thousand voices would be a serious understatement since he
also produces a similar number of instrumental and everyday sounds with
his electric guitar. At times, he uses the guitar like a control board
manipulating a Frankensteinian synthesizer through miles of electrical
cables. At other times he plays the guitar like the String master that he
is.
Although a bit of a ham - when in comedy mode he shoots jokes out like
rapid fire, high caliber bullets. When he gets serious with a song, his
voice and manner mesmerizes you. He WAS Ray Charles the other night
singing "Georgia On My Mind."
This amazing guy has (literally) a hat full of props as well as the 100
gallon foam rubber hat that he sometimes wears. The show is free but not
cheap, even if he's a one man band. Dusty Barron is a "must see" who
you'll want to see again. This cat has paid his dues, and pays and pays...

"Pinup Bettie Page hospitalized after heart attack."
LOS
ANGELES – Bettie Page,
a 1950s pinup known for her raven-haired bangs and saucy come-hither
looks, was hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a heart attack,
her agent said Friday."She's critically ill," Mark Roesler of CMG
Worldwide told The Associated Press. He said the 85-year-old had been hospitalized for the last three weeks
with pneumonia and was about to be released when she had the heart attack
Tuesday. Page was transferred to another hospital in
Los Angeles and
remained in intensive care Friday. A family friend, Todd Mueller,
said Page was in a coma. When asked to confirm, Roesler said, "I would not
deny that," but he would not comment further on her condition.

*Page,
a secretary turned model, is credited with helping set the stage for
the sexual revolution of the rebellious 1960s. She attracted
national attention with magazine photographs of her sensuous figure
that were tacked up on walls across the country.
Her photos included a centerfold in the January 1955 issue of
then-fledgling Playboy magazine, as well as controversial
sadomasochistic poses.
Page later spent decades away from the public eye, and during that
time battled mental illness and became a born-again Christian.
After resurfacing in the 1990s, she occasionally granted interviews
but refused to allow her picture to be taken.
Mueller credits his business dealings with Page for bringing her out
of seclusion. He said he first met her in 1989 when he offered her
"a bunch of money" to show up at autograph signings.
"I probably sold 3,000 of her autographs, usually for $200 to $300,"
he said. "Eleanor Roosevelt, we got $40-$50. ... Bettie Page
outsells them all."

order. What a great PR move...
From June 6, 2006
May 31, 2006...I was hanging out at the
Venetian today and wondered past the Grand Canal Shoppes, when my eyes "locked"
on several pieces of sculpture in a jewelry case. A tiny black and metal
"drum set" (crafted from Black Coral and Precious Metal - I later found out) was
perfectly scaled and meticulously finished. Other musical instruments were
on display, as well as other pieces: human figures, animals, mammals, jewelry
and much more...
You can see some of the work and obtain info.
from his Web-site (which is as meticulous as the Art.)
The brochure says that Mr. Passman is in his late 80's.
I can well imagine that it took a good many of those years to develop the
techniques and tweak the production process.
This is Art-work of the highest quality...To say that this
work is from a Master Sculptor is an accurate statement...I'm getting used to
seeing really fine Art at the Venetian...

Pizza Palace is closed.
Metro Pizza is now installed at Boulder Station.
PIZZA PALACEat Boulder Station serves NY
pizza, pasta, subs, salads etc.
THE PIZZA PALACE is a cubby hole
of a restaurant with a few tables across from a bar. Order slices, whole
pies, salads, meatball or sausage sandwiches and more. The pizza is - New
York style - as you like it. The handcrafted pizza is made with care. The
LAS VEGAS BUFFET CLUB recommends the Vegetarian pizza: broccoli, eggplant,
mushrooms and black olives over a - superb - traditional red sauce. In the
90's, the pizza chef - who seems to come and go - was indeed a true
artist! If your pizza is not superlative, he must be in the "gone" cycle.
PIZZA PALACE IS CLOSED.

"PUT SOME SOUTH IN YOUR MOUTH"
"Enjoy the finest barbecue west of the Mississippi at Joe's West of
Memphis Bar-B-Q. With a delicious dry rub recipe and a steadfast
commitment to quality, our Memphis-themed restaurant is the only name you
need to know for incredible lunch and dinner favorites in a fun,
comfortable atmosphere. Get the selection and service you deserve from a
family-owned-and-operated restaurant that takes your satisfaction
seriously. We also feature a life-size Elvis Presley statue playing a
guitar while sitting on stool in the corner of a stage surrounded by red
velvet curtains."
The quote above was
borrowed from Joe's Website. I don't think He'd mind, since he knows a lot
more about Bar-B-Q than I do...
I do know that I really like this restaurant. I like the food and I like
the ambience...
This family-friendly, family-run (good-folks) restaurant, West of Memphis
and just West of Aurora (Colorado - they reside in that neither land
between Aurora and Denver) is as unique as the aforementioned Elvis statue
standing in a corner of the restaurant.
The following is from my first review - Feb. 3, 2006
[February 3, 2006 - We went back to JOE’S WEST OF MEMPHIS BBQ “Put Some
South in Your Mouth!” (6901 East Colfax Ave. - Denver, Colo.
(303-333-5278.) On East Colfax’s Motel Row consisting of No-tell-motels,
Car-lots, bars, restaurants and other assorted business’s, Joe’s West of
Memphis BBQ stands apart as a hip, fresh, piece of restaurant art, with
little bits of kitsch thrown in for good measure. From the Black and White
floor tiles to the flat-black ceiling, around the flat black walls that
frame the framed photos and paintings of Elvis - to the Piece de
resistance: a full sized plastic Elvis, this place is cool. A few seats at
the small bar (beer and wine,) long-counter seating along the windows
facing Colfax and several tables - front and rear - are available for your
meal, after placing your order at the service counter. Take a seat and
your order will promptly be served. Tasty Rock N’ Roll (recorded) is
served up hot in the background; BBQ is served up hot from the kitchen:
Sandwiches, Joe’s Platters, Combo Platters, Samplers and “Just
Meat-dinners” are served in variations of: Slab Ribs, Rib Tips, Beef
Brisket, Shredded Pork, Chicken, Hot Links and Catfish, all served with
medium or hot sauce. A Smoked BBQ Bologna sandwich can be had for $3.25.
“Side Kicks” are available in individual, pint and quart sizes. Side Kicks
are: Baked Beans, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Collard Greens,
French Fries (sm or lg,) Southern Fried Chips (one size,) Sweet Potato
Fries (one size,) Corn Nuggets (one size,) Joe’s BBQ Sauce and Texas
Toast.
The experience is unique. BC] [February 3, 2006]

LVBC's Silverton's Hotel Page
*The information below was written several years
ago. I thought I'd leave it as is to show how the city of Las Vegas
changes. Much of the information is still relevant, however the Expansion
News link will provide new updates.
*The SILVERTON HOTEL AND CASINO is a favorite of the LAS
VEGAS BUFFET CLUB, even though the accommodations are average. Almost out of town on I-15 and
BLUE
DIAMOND ROAD the Silverton is an "out West" casino with all the
accoutrements. A long, sweeping panorama (closing in) of the mountains to
the West and the Las Vegas lights to the North are the views from this hotel. *Silverton features Country music in the lounge and other things western in the
casino. Memorabilia hanging from the ceiling and a general feeling of
"being in the west" pervades. The staff is friendly and you can really escape for a night or a
weekend and never leave the grounds. The Silverton provides a fair buffet
LVBC info. or
www.silvertoncasino.com) and a
good cafe (try the Cobb Salad with the Honey Mustard Dressing.)
An excellent pool side "Hawaiian Luau" is offered occasionally.
This food information is out of date, see top paragraphs.) [The following
information is no longer relevant:
The Silverton Hotel has a superb
RV Park just across
the street from the hotel. Each space has a patch of grass, a few feet of log fencing, telephone/computer lines, TV receptacles and all of the
other necessary hookups. The R.V. Park features a pool for
adults and a pool for kids (with fountains, slides, a water "fort" and more.)
This is an excellent family park. Shuttle and bus service are available.]
RV Park closed...
A Sam's town shuttle driver
mentioned that the Stardust is planning to shut down. When this
information is confirmed, I'll post the information. 9-1-05
(CONFIRMED - 2006!)
The following information is no longer valid - The Stardust is closed...
One of the oldest hotels in Las Vegas, the
STARDUST represents the old Las Vegas with a facelift. Full gaming:
Poker tables, Roulette, Blackjack, Slots, a huge dark
cavern of a Sports Book and a very colorful Keno room take care of business. There are some "loose" slots in this casino.
Click the Starlight Lounge for
information on a favorite entertainment venue.
The restaurants:THE BUFFETis
one of our favorites and
the following restaurants, in the hotel, will serve your food needs well: THE ISLAND CAFE,
TONY ROMA'S
and WILLIAM B'S STEAKHOUSE.
They also have a good coffee stand
and there is a Starbucks across (Las Vegas
Boulevard) the street. (STARBUCKS IS CLOSED!)
The rooms in the towers are up to date modern and
moderately priced (check for specials.)
The rooms in the Villas (Southside
two story building, by the pool) have lanais and are just twenty feet from the
pool. The rooms have seen better days, however they may also provide a
link to better days (the Las Vegas of the past) some would say. This is
the way Las Vegas was. If you are more comfortable in the old Las Vegas,
this is where you might want to be. The rooms start at about sixty bucks.
While playing Hexbreaker (May 24,
2006) at the Stardust, I caught the
Brandon Bennett
(ELVIS MY WAY Show) in the Starlight Lounge and
was pretty much impressed with this young man who sings and looks (at
least from a distance) like THE KING...He will perform: May 24 - 28, Wed. - Sunday, 6 pm
- 10 pm, free admission. This is a superlative Elvis show. Mr.
Bennett is backed-up by The Heartbreak Orchestra. This is a fine Rock N'
Roll band...
COCO
PALMS BUFFET
The
Stardust Hotel is one of our favorites.
The buffet is also a favorite. Greatly improved, after the renovation
(around 2000,) this buffet has finally developed into something that better
represents the celestial implications of the hotels name. Specialty
nights, moderate prices and a bright cheerful room make this buffet a contender.
The well designed and easily accessible food stations are
convenient and appealing. The only complaint that might be worth
mentioning: Why are some of the salad bar items placed so far away from
the glass that one needs 36 inch arms to reach the food? This question
applies to other buffets as well.

Buffet.

On Thursday May 11, 2006 we
found Joey Lee (from the now-defunct WILDLIFE band) fronting a new
group - REMIX - on the stage at the 13 Martini Bar, at
HOOTERS. Since WILDLIFE was a favorite band, I was not surprised
to find that REMIX is another amazing band. Joey Lee processes
very funky guitar licks through his red solid-body guitar.
His chink a' chink rhythms include that little something extra that makes
your head bob.
Lindsay Ellis is the Blonde "Girl Singer" who does what she is supposed to
do, and she does it very well. She sings like she's been at it since she was four
years old and according to their Web -site, she has. The other Music-Masters in this band are a drummer, bassist and keys-man.

WYNN LAS VEGAS
had it's Grand Opening, Thursday, April 28? and, of course, it was a great
success. The Las Vegas Buffet Club's local spy, Anthony L. reports:
"My first impression was that it was Awe Inspiring, - Elegantly
Flabbergasting. It was just gorgeous." He continues,
"Flowers throughout,
Beautiful People - Beautiful Shops." "A very gorgeous place."
Apparently gorgeous is the key word here.
Another viewpoint:
WYNN LAS VEGAS had it's Grand
Opening, Thursday, April 28.
I just got back in town and visited Wynn Las Vegas for the first time. For
what it's worth, here is my review:
My first impression, as we entered through the parking garage portal, was
of a garish mishmash of stuff. The colors/patterns were not pleasing. In
fact they were somewhat annoying. There didn't seem to be a discernable
theme - anywhere. (Wynn's previous hotels: Golden Nugget, Mirage, Treasure
Island and of course the Bellagio were appointed beautifully and they all
had a recognizable theme. Wynn Las Vegas is missing something - or I am.
To be fair, I did not enter a hotel room. The Water Show was
interesting, but rather minimal compared to the previous projects.
The Ferrari store was cool and the buffet room was spectacular. (We did
not eat at the buffet, however, since Wynn's prices tend to make me go
elsewhere. As I recall, the breakfast buffet is about $15.00; the dinners
ranged from about $20.00 to $30.00. I suppose at some point, I'll try the
buffet, but for now, I'll pass. BC
On the second visit (9-0-05,) I find that
I, perhaps, misjudged this place: It is a beautiful
hotel. Beautiful people are everywhere. The cocktail servers
are beautiful, Wow! As to the decor, I looked around and the phrase
that came to mind was "Victorian Modern." (I'm eating my words here!
)
A dark haired beauty (GEMA) was
working the door at the "Water Show" lounge on my second visit. I'll
be back!
The Desert
Outlaws look like "Cowpokes" at a Sheep Shearing. I was forced
to give them a second look to see if they were, in fact, Z Z Top, since their
cover of the Z Z Top tune they were cloning was extremely clean. I only
dropped in for a minute, so this info. is limited. From the little bit
that I heard, I'll be back. (From 9-3-05)
26th Annual SAN GENNARO FEAST - Italian Food Festival
(September 13-18) celebrates it's 26th year at the Spaghetti Bowl (Off
Charleston and I-15 at 100 Grand Central Parkway.) Food vendors, amusement
rides, carnival games and entertainers ply their wares into the night.
Piles of Lasagna and Spaghetti, Sausage and Pepper/ Meatball subs, Pizza
Slices, beer and wine, as well as Indian Tacos (Indian Fry Bread (fried
Pizza-like dough) with taco toppings,) International foods, Italian Ices
and soft drinks (of course) are available and fairly priced. " Over 200
Vendors!" "PONY RIDES FOR THE TOTS"
They have managed to present a festival that captures the sprit of times
long past.
