The pyramid shaped LUXOR is one of the most distinctive hotels in Las Vegas...That pyramid can be seen for miles as other less unique structures fade into the desert.

"At 42.3 billion candlepower, the Luxor Sky Beam is the strongest beam of light in the world. Using computer designed, curved mirrors to collect the light from 39 Xenon lamps and focus them into one intense, narrow beam, engineers say that an astronaut could read a newspaper by Luxor’s Sky Beam from ten miles into space. On a clear night, the Sky Beam is visible up to 250 miles away to an airplane." (excerpt from Luxor's website)

"Inside, the Luxor looks like the open space of the inside of a pyramid." Floors of Guest Rooms line the inside perimeter of the pyramid. The bottom of the structure supports a couple of floors.

King Tut's Tomb and Museum is replicated on one of those floors. A 15 minute self-guided audio tour can be purchased.

MANDALAY PLACE is a shopping area with restaurants. Mandalay Place looks much like a suburban

mall, in every way, except for the fine dining restaurants:

One of those restaurants is a really nice Burger Bar called, amazingly, THE BURGER BAR. This up-

scale burger joint features (besides the burgers) a bank of snug wooden booths, along one wall. These

booths are extremely inviting. There are also tables and a bar. The burgers start at about $6.00 - for a

Veggie Burger; The Coby (Coby Beef) Burger is $16.00. At the high-end they serve "The Rossinni," which "retails" for $60.00. MORE THE BUFFET is at the bottom of an escalator on a lower floor. Although the room is a bit "plastic," it's actually quite nice: The large Egyptian themed room with blocks of stone, columns and sandstone walls is broken up into many small sections - divided by the columns and "cement" blocks - with plenty of nooks and crannies to hide out in...This is a good buffet room to linger in a-while.
