| THE DOG HOUSE drive-in in
Albuquerque, New Mexico serves an outrageous Foot Long Chile Dog. The
building is a 1950s era fast-food joint with car-hop parking in front of the
glass windows of the kitchen.
On route 66, on the Western edge of Albuquerque, on Central Avenue,
across from and down the road a piece from Old Town, the DOG HOUSE has been
serving their Foot Long dogs since the Nineteen-Fifties. A carhop will
bring your order to the car or you can dine inside.
The "dog" is grilled on a huge stovetop - where the chili (a
red/brown/maroon - Chili Powder hot - Southwestern style) is simmering in a
large pot. The sliced dog nests in a foot long bun with chopped
onions, cheese and of course the chili sauce which has a slight taste of
cinnamon. The whole thing is wrapped in yellow paper; there is
no other way to eat these Foot Long Dogs.
