The RIV'S buffet was, at one
time, the closest thing one could find to a Las Vegas style buffet
in Black Hawk or Central City. With the advent of Ameristar's
Centennial Buffet and *The Lodge's Seasons Buffet, the Riviera's
Buffet has slipped in the standings. Although adequate, the
RIV'S buffet leaves something to be desired. The menu choices
are sparse compared to the aforementioned, although the food is
completely acceptable. The staff often seems to be
"grouchy" - one hesitates to ask a question. Then there's the
room itself: it's cold. The high, blue ceiling with monster
chandeliers just leaves you cold. The energy of the room is
very dull. I don't like writing this since the RIV has given
me a bunch of comps over the years, maybe it will help.
*The Lodge may have opened
before the Riviera. I had not been in the buffet until
recently. |

Serving pizza, salad and a great selection of sandwiches, the
Creekside Deli is fresh, fast, and tasty. Open daily. |

This is one of the better
buffets in the area. The Centennial Buffet offers most things
one might find at a Las Vegas buffet, including King Crab Legs, and
individual cooking stations. The room itself surpasses many in
Las Vegas. The quality of the
construction/craftsmanship/materials is above average and very
impressive (click photo above)
The room is warm and comfortable, the staff is friendly and attentive, this is a good bet. |

Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. has established a partnership with the
International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) to host a
competitive eating contest at the Isle Casino Hotel and Lady Luck
Casino Black Hawk. Sanctioned by Major League Eating, a World Rocky
Mountain Oyster eating contest will take place on Saturday, August
28.

Fortune Valley Casino is in
Central City; It is one of the larger casinos in CC.
Flavors Buffet is one of the smaller players. Everything
in the buffet is scaled down a bit, including the prices. So
if you're not in the mood for the vast choices of the larger
buffets, this might be the place for you. Also, if you are one
of the locals who will not support one of the Black Hawk behemoths,
you can dine at Flavours Buffet and not compromise your principles.

The Lodge Casino's Seasons
Buffet, sort of, has a steak-house feeling to it; it's more intimate
than the typical buffet. The lighting is as subdued as one can
find in a buffet room. One gets a pleasant, relaxed vibe from
Seasons Buffet. Kudos to the designers; it's one of the
best rooms anywhere.
This was my first trip to the The Lodge Casino, which seems to be a
real class act. From the classy buffet and The White Buffalo
steak-house to the red leather chairs in the waiting areas and the
hewn-timber construction |
